OUCH!

September 13th, 2009

There is a reason that moms tell their children that a pillow fight might not be a good idea…. It usually results in a child being injured. And yet, the pillow fights continue because… well, even mom’s admit they are fun!! Our house is no exception… we had family movie night last night up in the playroom and as a result the kids’ slumber bags and pillows were still down on the floor in front of the TV. On thing led to another and soon they were whacking each other with the pillows so I warned them several times. Then I took those evil and mocking pillows away from the children and returned them to their proper places on their respective beds. But lo and behold….I went downstairs with some laundry to fold (and football to watch) and those pesky pillows started to fly through the air once again until, yup….someone got hurt. Sir fell into the tea table upstairs and nearly broke his nose….nifty eh? But now he seems no worse for the fun, and oxyclean got all the blood out…. so we are ready for the next time.

Weekend Projects:

September 7th, 2009

If I had been smart, I would have remembered to take the before pictures that should go here!!  But I was soooo exited to get started on the kids’ rooms….well, I forgot!  I did manage to take some after shots. Although, to be honest, they really were taken to show Nana what we had been doing all day since she can’t make it up the stairs…

Miss’s new furniture is courtesy of TeeTee. My sister decided that she was a little too grown-up for a bedroom full of white wicker and shared with our house. After much arranging, re-arranging, and re-re-arranging, we managed to get everything into Miss’s room in a manner that she found satisfactory and I could still get into to change her sheets (minor detail, I know!) Now we just need to get those wall painted, but one project at a time PLEASE!!!  What do you think, cute eh?

While we were at it, we decided to work on Sir’s room as well. Since he has given up his afternoon nap, he no longer must live the Zen existence required in his room to get him to sleep. He actually gets to have some stuff in his room…toys even! Again, we still need to paint the walls….but here’s the big-boy version including train table:

Time to really decorate his room, don’t ya think? Any suggestions??

Lazy Day Saturday

September 5th, 2009

One of the best parts of family life is Saturday morning!  We have consciously decided to avoid activities that force us out of the house early on Saturday mornings such as weekly lessons or team sports.  Selfish, I know~ but we figure that we can manage to keep this policy for another year or so…  and then life will interfere and we’ll have to join the frenzy of baseball games, skating lessons and the myriad of activities that besiege the modern family.  Until then, we get to do this:

And this:

Why would we want to give this up any sooner than we have to??

Hooray, it’s FRIDAY!!!!

September 4th, 2009

What’s more fun than a homework-free-Friday????  Finding some old (actually new-and-never-opened but forgotten in a closet and newly re-discovered) costumes for Sir.  Now, you might wonder how costumes for Sir would be fun for Miss… I mean who wouldn’t??

You see, these aren’t just any costumes… they MATCH hers!! She found a Woody costume to match her Jessie:

And a Peter Pan to go with her Tinkerbell:

Now to decide what to be for Halloween…we only have two months left!!

Why I HATE Play-doh:

September 1st, 2009
  1. kindergarten teachers assign it for homework because it is good for developing hand strength and coordination
  2. kids love it
  3. teachers like it for homework so they don’t have to deal with the mess at school
  4. kids love it
  5. it smells bad
  6. kids love it
  7. it sticks to everything, including the little cup it comes in and under mommy’s nails
  8. kids love it
  9. you can NEVER get all the little bitty pieces all picked up so some ALWAYS gets left behind to fall to the floor, get stuck to a shoe or bare foot (ICK!), get licked up by the dog and/or get ground into the carpet
  10. kids love it

Girls’ Day OUT!!

August 31st, 2009

Miss had a teacher work day at school today, but Sir still had class. So, we had a whole THREE hours to spend together doing something special..her pick!  I offered to take her to a movie (which she really enjoys and sits in her chair the WHOLE time but her brother is a bother!) or ice skating, shopping, etc.  My daughter proved again that she is a girlie-girl through and through…guess what she picked???  A SPA DAY followed by shopping!!!!  Oh my!!! AND…we had to take Nana with us since she is a girl too!!!

We started with Lunch at Rubios (since it is one of Nana’s favorites…) and it took us over an hour to eat:

Then it was off to the Nail Salon for a pedicure for Miss and a Manicure for Mommy…same color for both- PINK!

She tried to look soooo grownup in the massage chair, but she couldn’t lean back and still keep her feet in the water!  Once we were all dry, we headed across the parking lot to Target to spend her allowance money on Barbie stuff. We spent the rest of the weekend playing Barbie Wedding with our new Ken-in-a-Tux and Barbie wedding dress.  Oddly enough, I think that I had as much fun as she did!

Diggin’ on donuts

August 29th, 2009

After we dropped Miss off at school today, Sir and I needed to stop by Safeway for a few things. He usually rides in the shopping trolley so that I can keep him contained while I surf the aisles looking for the best deal, healthiest option, matching coupon, etc. For a special treat, sometimes he gets to drive the car in the front of the cart while I shop…but that thing is sooo darn cumbersome and he can still reach out and grab random things off the lower shelves while I am ***gasp*** not watching.  This morning, we only needed a few things so when he asked if he could “walk like a big boy” I decided to give it a try… Of course the first thing that he saw as we walked into the store was the donut display!!! (Now, I KNOW better than to walk into that door where they have the donut display front-and-center and right at little-person eye level… the produce side is by far the better entrance when you have kids. I mean, how often do you hear the kids in the store shouting, “But MOMMY, I NEED to have a WATERMELON. RIGHT NOW~!!!” …Actually, that WOULD be my other kid, but you get my point, right??)

Anyways, I walked right past the donut display with my little man holding my hand and did what any mother with a lick of sense would do…I bribed him!  We zipped through the store, picking up the few items we needed with very little fuss and NO RUNNING OFF!!! YEA!!!  Then we stopped back at that fat-and-sugar ladden display and I let him pick one out to take home.  Chocolate covered with sprinkles….what would YOU have done??

Tired Little Man

August 24th, 2009

Sir has really missed his naps…. Now, of course he’ll never admit it, but he is sooo tired every afternoon that evenings are pretty cranky for him. Today he was so tired that he fell asleep when we ran to pick up Miss from school this afternoon. He slept through the whole pick-up process and the drive home. He walked into the living room to take off his shoes, then slid down the sofa and laid down on the floor…and slept for another 30 minutes. AMAZING!!!  And toooooo cute:

How to distract a Nana…

August 23rd, 2009

With Pirates and Barbies….how else??  With Nana staying here for her extended recovery, several people have expressed concern over her mental health. It must be very hard for someone who sooo looked forward to retiring to now be trapped in a wheelchair in my house.  So we have conspired to keep her busy… and really, who could be depressed when your time is spent like this:

Ahoy Maties, Let’s play Pirates:

Barbie’s Bathtime anyone??

Nana is home…or at least back to our house!

August 20th, 2009

I’ll have to scan in the x-ray that the surgeon gave to me… really quite amazing!  I think I counted 10 or 11 screws and a large metal plate in the shape of the number 7… she is sure going to be setting off the metal detectors when she flies next…
